GOOD NEWS FOR POT SMOKERS!

Contrary to popular belief, marijuana helps grow new brain cells
,
a study suggests. A separate study reports pot smoke is less carcinogenic than cigarette smoke.

Did you know that heavy-duty speaker cones are now being made out of Hemp? The mellow sounds coming out of your favorite musicians' amps may be due to the heavy-duty Hemp-made cones. Carlos Santana and ZZ Top are among the newly converted to the Hemp sound. Hemp apparently better handles large volume changes more quickly and with less distortion than paper based speaker cones. It also is more heat resistant. One company currently utilizes this new technology: Check it out here!
Amazing, isn't it?

When Henry Ford told a New York Times reporter that ethyl alcohol was "the fuel of the future" in 1925, he was expressing an opinion that was widely shared in the automotive industry. "The fuel of the future is going to come from fruit like that sumach out by the road, or from apples, weeds, sawdust -- almost anything," he said. "There is fuel in every bit of vegetable matter that can be fermented. There's enough alcohol in one year's yield of an acre of potatoes to drive the machinery necessary to cultivate the fields for a hundred years."

Ford recognized the utility of the hemp plant. He constructed a car of resin stiffened hemp fiber, and even ran the car on ethanol made from hemp. Ford knew that hemp could produce vast economic resources if widely cultivated.

. from John Shiflet- It saddens me to realize that 40 years after Marijuana use became a hotly debated issue, the American public is still just as polarized over it as it was then. What little progress made on Marijuana and drug legal reform in general has been painfully slow and minute. Our government continues to take a scientifically unsupported view that Pot is the worst drug ever discovered by the human race. We've heard all of the anti-drug rhetoric and cliches a thousand times over. They can regulate alcohol and tobacco, yet pot is far too dangerous to even consider regulation. I blame it all on that damn idiot painter, Norman Rockwell.

Say what!? You see, in the rigidly-conforming, strictly black and white world of the conservative Republican mind, America should reflect the illusionary simplistic scenes portrayed by the late Norman Rockwell. Just as Adolph Hitler's crazy thoughts were inspired by composer Wagner's operatic legends about the noble German race, our Conservative Republicans dream about Norman Rockwell's America. The trouble is, these sappy, simplistic, mawkish images of blissful wholesome family living didn't reflect American life even when they were created and applying them to today's America is downright delusional. (oh, but I forgot that Rush Limbaugh was recently on drugs!)

Let's see what the ideal American life would be like in this Norman Rockwell, make-believe, conservative Republican world: Social issues would be very simple-women and minorities would know "their place" within this White, Anglo-Saxon, Male-dominated world and woe unto he or she that stepped outside of it. Everyone would be a Christian whether you liked it or not and church attendance, bible reading, and school prayers would be mandatory. Double standards would be the rule and you would instinctively know which standard applied to you. Behavior considered inappropriate would be dealt with swiftly and just about any infraction could earn you the death penalty or a long prison term. Drugs are something that only minorities and criminals abuse, so you'd better stick with getting shit-faced on alcohol. Criminals would no longer be called criminals; the new descriptive term would be liberals. More power to the robber-baron corporations because the working stiffs of America don't deserve any rights. The rich are rich because it's their divine birthright, just as is access to higher education. What a wonderful conservative Republican dream world!

Many of our so-called Republican political leaders share this Norman Rockwell-inspired nostalgic nightmare. I don't blame the American public for putting these people in power. Most Americans are genuinely concerned about our country and the welfare of the people who live in it. Many of them voted for these leaders because they told them exactly what the public wanted to hear. Besides, as long as one legislative branch was controlled by Democrats, everything that went wrong could always be blamed on them. Marijuana reform is but a tiny aspect of a wide-ranging array of festering societal issues growing worse almost by the day. While I applaud everyones' efforts to allow access to medical marijuana, until a more enlightened political climate returns to Washington, I see little opportunity for much real progress on a national level. Just my 2 cents worth... Peace,
John

The following is an exerpt from the letter the Hippie Museum received from Vivian McPeak, which has been put up on the Hippie Museum. It's a really ejoyable and informative read.
"My name is Vivian McPeak, and I am the executive director of the Seattle Hempfest , attended by 170,000 people in 2003. I have been involved in marijuana law reform for 20 years, and am a legal medical marijuana patient in the state of Washington. The following is my heart-song about the laws against our sacred sacrament, the healing herb Cannabis..."

from jtwanless- I have just written another song. It revolves around Marc Emery. For those who might not be familiar with him, Marc is the courageous and charismatic leader of Canada's marijuana reform movement which emanates from Vancouver. He created what may be the greatest application of an Internet site toward an evolving social movement. Pot TV ( www.pot-tv.net ) is a collection of constantly updated video programs which decry the absurd injustice of making a relatively harmless herb the cause of more than 700,000 arrests each year - in the United States alone.

The folks at Pot TV liked my song, "Mister Emery" and made a video montage of images from some of Marc's speaking events to go along with it. You can watch it here:

Also, the latest, studio version of "Mister Emery" (audio only) can be heard at the Drug Truth Network:

In answer to some anti pot retoric,Roan Carratu Writes... The 'Straight Facts About Marijuana' is that a bunch of fascist fanatics will take marijuana smoking people at gun point and lock them in metal boxes in an insane culture of criminals for years of body and mind destroying nastiness. This is the absolute worst thing that can happen to anyone smoking Marijuana, far worse than what you state is the negative effects of the herb.

You can take anything, aspirin to water, and use science to make it undesirable, even harmful. The effects of the herb Marijuana are both slight and very individual. Some people shouldn't do it, and most others are better because of it. I have seen men who were intent on killing each other smoke a joint together and sit down and talk the problem out, and end up friends rather than corpses. What do you think they would have done if they had been drinking, something that the fascists like? You certainly don't say anything about that kind of effect, do you?

I know thousands of people who smoked Marijuana in their youth and adulthood, many of which are Doctors and Lawyers and all kinds of professionals now, most of them as their second careers. There first careers were taking care of people, healing the sick in 3rd world countries, bringing technology and education to the poorest of the poor. Grass gave them the sensitivity to feel the compassion that led them to their first careers. It broke through their fascist education to bring heart into the world. They are better people because of smoking that herb, and there has been no health effects from those years of toking at all, as far as any of them can find. You certainly don't say anything about that kind of effect, do you?

Your propaganda, and your overseer's jailing of Marijuana smokers both produce people who are forced into bad company on the street and create a terrible black market filled with profit oriented armed gangsters who push other bad drugs on our children. You are part of the problem, not the solution. You are not doing the world a service by exploiting a harmless drug. You are hand in hand with the gangsters who kill for the profit from drugs and the fascists who lock people up.

By the way, I don't smoke grass or do any drugs, including alcohol. But if it was not for the mood altering effects of Marijuana in my youth, I would have become a stone cold killer or killed myself in bad conscience. Mind altering Marijuana took me from a path of government sanctioned cold hearted killer to a full human experience.

from Sagetea - For years lamp oil was made from hemp seeds. hemp is a perfect plant for that application and the corporations knew it.(especially DUPONT). You can get a lot of oil rich seeds from one single hemp plant. Also you can make breakfast cereal or really great soap or cooking oil or paper or even building materials. And the corporations know this. In fact corporations now run the prison system. Which means lets use marijuana smokers as raw materials for our prisons. while denying the people hemp as a raw material for products. Why does the corporations hate hemp so much? Because it is so useful and the natural products derived from it would be the consumers choice. For instance a shampoo derived from hemp leaves hair in such nice shape that conditioner is not needed, that would cut into proctor and gambell's market share. If recreational Herb was available to the people, their would be a whole lot less alcohol abuse going on. That would effect all the industry that surrounds alcohole abuse such as law firms, mental health centers, the liquor and brewing companies, and a whole host of other entities..... Sagetea
