Alicia Bay Laurel was born in 1949, and I migrated to the Haight Ashbury right out of high school at age 17, in 1966, the year before the Summer of Love. "I not only became a hippie, but ended up being sort of a poster child hippie when I wrote/illustrated a book about life on a rural hippie commune, which was published in 1970 and became a bestseller in 1971."
